I walked, made miso soup, and talked on skype, then tried to clear files off my computer because I’m down to less than 20gb of free space.
The staff meeting was pretty short; following, Yuka took Chris and I to Sabae Higashi to introduce us to the teachers (though Chris has been teaching there before). These meetings are a little draining because everybody says ‘yoroshiku onegaishimasu’ or just ‘onegaishimasu’ about a million times. It’s like, when am I supposed to say it? How often? Need I repeat it every time they say it? How deep of a bow am I supposed to do? I dunno. Whatever. I’m a foreigner, and ignorant in their ways. Yup.
Nathan is trying to get his driver’s license now, so I drove him to a little kids’ class, which was fun because I got to see him teach. Right after returning from that I had to book it to Fukui for a couple classes, then unexpectedly part of another class, but that one was ok, they knew hangman so we played that.
One of the classes I don’t know what to do because all 3 students are super quiet. One of them knows everything (I think) so I think he’s super bored as I try to coax all 3 of them to saying anything. I must come up with something.
Now I will go to bed.
A note on gutters: Japan has a lot of rain, so they have a lot of gutters. Observe.
Gutters on one side of the street. (Covered.)
Gutters on the other side. (Not covered.)
I musn’t drive too close to the edge of the road!!!
I think the gutter is wider than your car :p
ReplyDeleteFunny reading about how you're getting low on space. At first I thought you were going to say megabytes (I remember when 20 MB was big).
ReplyDeleteStrange customs bowing and saying polite things so many times, but in a way very charming. However, I'm sure they don't expect you to understand or follow them, at least not right away.
The variety of classes and students seems a bit overwhelming. You're going to become an amazing teacher once you get you get rolling!
Yeah, I always thought of 20 gb as a pretty big amount, but my computer is acting slow!! Must... free up... more space....
DeleteThey bow all the time. When I go walking I say hello to the people I meet and they always bow and I always bow in greeting. I'm in danger of making it a habit.
It's overwhelming!! I'm overwhelmed!! But I hope in a few weeks I'll have settled into it more.
