Day 38, April 20 (Sat)

The morning proved colder than before, and by afternoon it was raining. I had one less boy in my baby-sitting class, but the other boys were wild enough to make up for it. My afternoon classes were cancelled so it was nice to have a day to myself.
I vacuumed and did dishes, went to the bank, got gas. Exciting.

But I also had the chance to walk along the river, and I saw that the lanterns had just been taken down. How sad am I that the kirameki river is ended. However, the riverbank is turning green with the succession of spring.

In the evening Kaori came to visit for a few hours, we chatted, tried to come up with ideas for stuff to do for Golden Week. Not a lot presented itself, but we decided to train for a 5 kilo marathon in May that Hugh is doing. Just because.

We ate nori potato chips and these, I don’t know what they are [okaki] but they’re tasty (soy sauce crackers):

  1. Sounds like a relaxing day. What is Golden Week?

Fun to think of running a race. But 5 killometers = marathon?

Tonight's actually the night Rose is coming (I was on yesterday just now- how time flies!). So I'd better get cooking. Sayonara!

    1. Golden Week is a series of holidays in the beginning of May. It's actually only from Friday to Monday... but maybe a lot of people take the whole week off?

      Not a literal marathon, then.

  2. 5km is like 3 miles. even if you don't run a lot, pretty easy to train for. Have fun!

    1. I can't run for more than about 5 minutes. Maybe 10. But I can certainly walk it no problemo :p

    2. Yeah... I had to work up to running for 1 mile this semester, and that's only about 10 minutes.

    3. It's hard on the knees! I'm not a big fan. I prefer walking. But running works different muscles, that's for sure.

  3. I wonder if marathon means something different in japanese. It should be good for you, but watch out for sore joints, and back off if it hurts- Anything! Otherwise, good luck!

    1. I dunno, that's just what Hugh called it.
I might wear my knee braces if I suspect I'll be running much. I bet you know how much running hurts knees! But walking feels good. After a walk I can take my stairs two at a time.
