We woke this morning to discover that the world still existed, but we had some scares as the power went out no less than three times before breakfast. We sen out some emails and made FaceBook posts to concerned friends in Utah to let them know that the world was still here, but one person pointed out that it really shouldn't end until South America reached the promised day (at this time all corners of the globe have reached the 21st, so no more worries!).
After breakfast we set out to explore the town. The town is tiny. Quite possibly the smallest place I have ever been. It is really weird. As we walked along the ally from our hotel, I eventually realized that it was actually the street. Eventually we made our way to a bigger street, which turned out to be the island highway. It looks to be maybe half the size of a street back home. This may explain why the primary mode of transportation is mopeds. There are lots of them zipping around, dodging pedestrians.
We found the island temple, which was pretty small and unimpressive, then we returned to swim, this time armed with two pairs of goggles, which proved to be awesome, since our bay has tons of tropical fish. And sea cucumbers/slugs, sea urchins, crabs, coral, and seaweed. We had fun passing the goggles around and counting the different type of fish we saw. Myra got up to 22.
We set into town for lunch, then returned to swim again. Then we set into town for dinner. Then we slept :)
A note on the pictures: the little brown puppy we call "teddy bear" since that is what he looks like. Myra was tickled by the Thai Lays, and the fact they have seaweed flavored potato chips. The other little dog belongs to the resort. There are lots of dogs in Thailand, but Tao has the highest concentration thus far.
Cats are rarer, but we have seen a few. I saw an adorable Siamese kitten near the shrine, which seemed appropriate considering we are in Siam :)
