We flew out of Salt Lake Int'l Airport at 7 am Dec 13. By the time we landed in Bangkok, it was after midnight on the 14th. Our flight wasn't non-stop, as we had thought; instead, in Seoul, we had to get off the plane, go through security again, and re-board. What a hassle!
But we did eventually reach Bangkok and our hotel, and went to bed at 3am.
Here's our hotel & sweet / apartment:
It has a TV. The next night (as I write this) we watched part of Avatar: The Last Airbender. With Thai subtitles. And we watched Thai commercials. The TV also has NHK and Australian Network.
On the 15th we woke bright and early. Mia had set her alarm for 9:00... but when we woke at 11:00, she realized she had set it for 9pm. Oh well. We ate a combo breakfast of leftover airplane food, and so on.
Only then did we venture out into the bustle of a Bangkok Saturday.
We survived through crowds in 1 shopping area (Siam Square) filled with food vendors, shops, and beggars, got sim cards for a couple iPads, ate lunch, wandered through 3 department stores, saw lots and lots of people and food and performing bands, saw the sky train and tuk tuks, dozens of little shrines and one larger temple, people with reindeer ears, lots of Christmas trees and lights and 2013 decorations, and twirling flying light toys.
And of course there are McDonald's.
And Ferrero Rocher.
Then we shopped for food, went home, and went swimming. It was a real pretty swimming pool, with fake twinkling stars above it, and a bubbling hot-tub.
Afterwards, Mia made sausage and onions with a green curry, then we wrote blog stuff, watched Avatar (at the same time), drank Jasmine tea, then (I predict) went thankfully to bed.
Day 1 (being our third day) was mostly exploring and getting used to Thailand. The people are pretty nice so far, and a lot of them speak a little bit of Thai. We have said 'thank you' in Thai bunches of times and they can understand us :) kobkun kah!
